Safety and Security at 400TS

General Campus Security

The location of the Ragon Institute, in the heart of Kendall Square and MIT, puts it at the center of one of the most remarkable research ecosystems, offering access to the best in life-science and technology in the world. With the privilege of this dense urban environment comes the responsibility to strike a workable balance between access and flexibility on the one hand and security on the other. Security policies and procedures exist in order to maximize the security of all. Toward this end, please review the following regulations and guidelines (additional security measures are outlined in Ragon Connect at https://ragonconnect.partners.org/research-resources/health-safety/).

General Emergency Response

In the event of an emergency call 911 immediately and then, when possible, call the Alexandria security command center at 617-577-9177.  The security command center is located at 300 Technology Square and is operated by Allied Universal Security 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is someone at the desk 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  PLEASE add this to your contacts.  After calling 911 and notifying Allied Universal Security, please call Thor Sandstad at 857-268-7072 or Charlie Viveiros at 978-930-9784 to update them on the situation.  If you are not successful in contacting Allied Security please call Thor or Charlie directly.

Non-Emergency Security Issues

If you have any non-emergency security related questions or concerns, please report them directly to Thor Sandstad, Senior Facilities and Operations Manager, tsandstad1@mgh.harvard.edu, or Charlie Viveiros, Research Facilities Director, cjviveiros@mgh.harvard.edu. Charlie Viveiros in collaboration with Thor Sandstad, will work with the Landlord and the Security team as necessary to address the issue.

Medical Emergency 

  • In case of a medical emergency, call 911.
  • Please notify Allied Universal Security at 617-577-9177.
  • Once the issue has been addressed, please call Thor Sandstad at 857-268-7072 or Charlie Viveiros 978-930-9784 to update them on the situation.  If you are not successful in getting medical attention please call Thor or Charlie directly.

CRIME 

Please report all criminal actions or threats thereof, vandalism, and emergencies occurring within the building and vicinity by calling 911 and then reporting the incident to our Security personnel. Reports are to be made to the Allied Security officer on duty at the Command Center in the lobby of 300 Technology Square, who will file an incident report. The security officer can be reached at 617-577-9177. In the event that an incident occurs after hours, Ragon personnel should call appropriate law enforcement and/or emergency personnel (911) and Allied Security Universal (617-577-9177). All reports will then be disseminated to appropriate staff member(s).

Security Escort 

A reminder that an escort is available at all times. Anyone requesting an escort service may ask the security officer on site to secure one through the Security Command Center (617-577-9177).

Stolen Property 

  • Report all incidents to security at the 300 Technology Square Command Center as soon as possible. Either directly or by calling 617-577-9177. A report will be filed with the Ragon and Allied Security Universal.
  • Please also contact Thor Sandstad at tsandstad1@mgh.harvard.edu or Charlie Viveiros at cjviveiros@mgh.harvard.edu to update them on the situation.  If you are not successful in contacting Allied Security, please call Thor or Charlie directly.
  • If stolen property is found, the individual will be notified by email. Please keep in mind the Ragon is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
  • Please report any stolen items to the local police at 617-349-3300. Our precinct is located at: Cambridge Police Department, 125 6th St, Cambridge, MA 02142.

The Ragon Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) group works closely with all Ragon staff to ensure workplace safety. They work with laboratory staff at the Ragon Institute to provide policies, procedures, advice and training to ensure compliance when working with biological materials and chemicals.
