How The Anonymous Inbox works:

We take the anonymous aspect of the Anonymous Inbox incredibly seriously, and I, Claire Brewer (Director of IT) think it’s important to put your minds at rest with regards to how your entry to the inbox gets to Ragon Staff without containing any details about your RagonConnect account.

RagonConnect uses a software plugin to manage the design of a web form, accept text entered in to the form, and then send it as an email to a specified recipient.

As you can see above, the “Anonymous Inbox” uses a form with a single text field and a Submit button.

The text that is entered into the box is packaged up so that it can be sent from the Ragon Connect Website. The email is sent from RagonConnect but as the message actually needs to have a valid ‘From’ email address to be delivered successfully, mine (cebrewer@mgh.harvard.edu) is used.

The email also needs to have a valid recipient email address so it can reach its destination. This is currently set to use Jennifer Crotty and Kristen Massimine’s email, who will read, copy only the message text, and paste it in a new email to be sent on to the manager of whatever the message concerns. Anonymous inbox emails are never forwarded; they are always sent by copying and pasting into a new email. Because the RagonConnect server sends the email, it is not linked to any other Partners/Mass General Brigham account apart from mine.

Therefore, all anonymous entries have my email address as the sender and Jennifer and Kristen as the recipient, with the text of the entry sent in the body of the email.
